This course delivers the complete 5th Class mathematics curriculum through nine integrated modules covering place value and decimals, all four operations with whole numbers and decimals, fractions, decimals and percentages, measures, time and money, 2D and 3D shape with angles and symmetry, data handling, chance, coordinates, and early algebra. Students develop computational fluency, visualise concepts through manipulatives and real-life contexts, and apply skills in extended modelling projects such as designing a class garden, planning a school trip, and running a class shop. The distinctive emphasis on connecting mathematical strands through practical investigation and pupil-led modelling builds deep conceptual understanding and problem-solving confidence.

What Students Will Learn

Learning Goals

  1. Master place value, decimals to thousandths, negative numbers, and their connections to fractions, percentages and money
  2. Develop fluency in mental and written strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with whole numbers and decimals
  3. Work confidently with fractions, equivalent forms, operations, ratio, proportion and percentage of quantities
  4. Measure and calculate accurately using metric units for length, mass, capacity, perimeter, area and volume in real contexts
  5. Apply mathematical understanding to data handling, probability, algebra, shape, time, money and open-ended modelling projects

Learning Outcomes

  1. Read, write, compare, order and round decimals up to thousandths, including on a number line and in money contexts.
  2. Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and decimals using mental strategies, column methods and the bus-stop division algorithm.
  3. Simplify, compare, order, add and subtract fractions with same and different denominators, and find fractions and percentages of quantities.
